It is a simple, ordinary life for Franciszka and her daughter until 1939, when the Nazis invade. In Nazi-occupied Poland, offering shelter to Jews is a death sentence, but Franciszka and Helena do exactly that. The family of Sokal hides a Jewish family in their loft above the pig yard, a Jewish doctor with his family under the kitchen, and a German soldier who defected from the army in the attic - all completely unknown to each other. The only way for everyone to survive is for Franciszka to outsmart the Germans and her neighbors.
Stealing would be an option, or wrenching, as well as capturing or arresting. It depends upon the context but those are some "negative" options for you.
