Using a dictionary and/or thesaurus gives you a wide-range of vocabulary, as well as their definitions, that can enhance the meaning of your writings immensely. They also help when it comes to your comprehension skills, and how well you can understand and analyze a text.

Why did Miller choose the Salem Witch Trials as the basis for The Crucible?
Andre45 [30]

The McCarthy hearings were similar to the witch trials.  As in the McCarthy Hearings, these people were put on trial without any way to defend themselves. Finally, both during the McCarthy Hearings and during the Salem Witch Trials, the general public was so afraid of being accused of being a communist or a witch respectively that they did not dare question what was going on, nor put a stop to it.
