Robin the ostler and Ralph have stolen one of Doctor Faustus conjuring books. They intend to use it to conjure demons that will serve them and do whatever pleases them. Robin states that first he will use it to "make all the maidens in our parish dance at my pleasure, stark naked, before me".
The first involves choosing a topic and becoming familiar with it.
