  • The British Parliament In 1774, passed a series of laws as an attempt to avoid colonial unrest  to punish the Massachusetts colonists as they protested in reaction to changes in taxation (1773).  Known as "Intolerable Acts", law which lead to a boycott of British goods, organized by the <em>Sons of Liberty. </em>Between September 5 to October 26, 1774 delegates from 12 (off the thirteen colonies) met to conduct discussions about the situation and a proposal to create a  Union of Great Britain and the Colonies was passed, but rejected and agreed to the boycott. (3)
  • The Continental Congress adopted the petition on July 5, 1775 and was signed on July 8 as a final attempt to avoid war. (1)
  • The Proclamation of Rebellion or "Proclamation for Suppressing Rebellion and Sedition" was Issued on August 23, 1775 by King George III as a response to the Battle of Bunker Hill. (4)
  • The resolution was passed on Congress on June 7, however it was until July 2 of 1776 when the Continental Congress proclaims unanimously after the vote of 12 colonial delegations, the issue of the formal declaration of independence. (2)
