Telegraphs majorly changed the business industry, and lives of people in general because it was so much easier to communicate. Writing letters was the way of communicating before the telegraph, and you would have to wait weeks, sometimes months to get a letter from someone across your country. The telegraph was able to send a message within minutes, sometimes seconds, so it was much easier for businesses to communicate at a far distance.
