How does the author highlight the contrast between reality and glamour in the last paragraph of the selection? Cite evidence fro

m the text to support your answer.
Some now believe the influencer world is fading. They see
weary audiences who are tired of all the perfect images. Still,
others see this world as only evolving. Overall, it takes a degree
of critical thinking and natural skepticism to navigate this
complex world. It’s not necessary to shun influencers; simply try
to strike a balance in your choices. For a healthier experience
with influence culture, develop strategies like the following:
7
relevant
(rel´∂-v∂nt) adj. If something
is meaningful or purposeful in
current society or culture, it is
considered relevant.
NOTICE & NOTE
QUOTED WORDS
When you notice the author
has quoted the conclusions of
someone who was a participant in
an event, you’ve found a Quoted
Words signpost.
Notice & Note: Mark the
quotations in paragraph 7.
Analyze: Why was this person
quoted or cited and what did
this add?
8
skepticism
(skep´t∆-s∆z´∂m) n. Skepticism is a
doubting or questioning attitude.

• Think outside the frame. When viewing a vlog or even
just a photograph of a blog, try to imagine what’s going
on beyond the shots. Not everything may be as perfect or
as real as what you see. Feel free to question what’s going
on behind the perfect scenes. Focus on influencers who
are honest and direct about their intentions.
• You don’t have to buy in. It’s not necessary to accept
influencer messages fully. Being highly entertained or
energized by what you see doesn’t mean you be absolutely
loyal. That said, it’s definitely okay to resist.
• Know your worth. Yours may be the most advertised-to
age group ever. Be aware of how certain influencers want
to affect your buying behavior.
• Avoid comparisons. Don’t measure yourself against the
seemingly perfect images. They are deliberately designed
to appear that way. Know that you don’t have to live up to
anyone’s standards.
9 In the end, be aware of the reality behind the glamour.

In the introductory note above the passage, the author is quoted as saying that his purpose for writing is to “excite…a sense of
Tom [10]

Answer:

The detail that presents evidence of this purpose is:

The noise and clamour with which this is attended, and the eagerness visible in the countenances of the buyers, serve not a little to increase the apprehensions of the terrified Africans.

Explanation:

The author's purpose is to "excite... a sense of compassion." In other words, he wants readers to feel sympathy for those who suffered as a consequence of slavery. One way to instigate compassion and sympathy in others is to unveil to them how painful an experience was. By describing how one suffered, the way one felt while going through something, it is possible to have people empathize. Among the options, the one that refers to the way Africans felt while being traded is the last one:

The noise and clamour with which this is attended, and the eagerness visible in the countenances of the buyers, serve not a little to increase the apprehensions of the terrified Africans.

We can imagine, even feel, their fear. The eagerness of those who were buying them, treating them not as human beings but as goods, only contributed to their terror. By reading this, we can't help but feel compassion for them.
