On the British ships the conditions were horrible. there was a lack of supplies and food and sailors feared they could die.
The English, Dutch and French forces saw that the Caribbean islands where valuable and those European powers started to fight for it, when the English started to prevail Spain was forced to retreat and the consequences where that Spain lost one of its valuable land but also it lost soldiers during the fights it had with the other powers.
If New Mexico had fallen to Confederate forces, the confederate economy would have steadily risen due to various goods there.

They basically expected the colonists to have a voice around in their government, since they did have the rights to vote as well as the navigation acts dealt with colonial trade, which wasn't much about the rights, their isn't any so-called monarchy too.
