My nerves were on end, and it took all of my willpower to keep my nervousness from interfering with what I was doing. I tried to refrain from looking at the crowd, and when I did I kept my eyes on my friends' supportive faces. After a while, I started to relax as I gradually immersed myself in my performance. By the time my act was over, I had completely forgotten about my previous nervousness. That wasn't so bad, I thought as the curtains closed and the lights came back on, the audience's clapping fading away.
