The most hurtful reason to Papa for which he thinks others hate him is because they think he is an Inu.

What is the Meaning of Inu?

In the story "Farewell to Manzanar", the women call Papa "Inu" because he was released from the Fort Lincoln prison faster than other men.

In their opinion, he must have purchased his release by betraying other men. Hence the reason the women for the love of their husbands hate that only he came back and not their husbands.
