If we watch that, I’ll fall asleep. The comma usually goes before an independent clause (“I’ll fall asleep”), indicating a cause/effect relationship.

Answer:

If we watch that, I'll fall asleep.

Explanation:

Commas are helpful when combining independent clauses with dependent clauses in the same sentence.

First, <u>define an independent and a dependent clause is</u>. An independent clause is a clause that has 3 important parts: a verb, subject, and complete thought. Dependent clauses are similar; however, they have no complete thought. They still have a subject and verb, but they cannot stand on their own.

A helpful way to remember the difference is that an independent clause is independent and does not require any help. On the other hand, a dependent clause depends on another clause to make it a complete sentence.

Next,<u> identify the different clauses within the sentence given.</u> There are 2 clauses, one independent and one dependent. The clause, "If we watch that" is a dependent clause. "Watch" is the verb and "that" is the subject; however, because of the word "if" there is no complete thought. The clause, "I'll fall asleep" is an independent clause. "I" is the subject and "fall asleep" is the verb phrase. This clause also expresses a complete thought.

Finally, <u>connect these clauses</u>. A dependent clause can be connected to an independent clause with a simple comma. So, the final answer is "If we watch that, I'll fall asleep."

Which phrase can be changed when paraphrasing this text?
bezimeni [28]

Full Question:

Read the excerpt from the building of manhattan.

<em>It was a monumental task: to design the world's tallest building, create as much usable rental space as possible, plan so it could be built within 18 months, and still have a handsome building. in the end, architect william lamb worked on fifteen designs before his plan "k" was finally chosen</em>.

Which phrase can be changed when paraphrasing this text?

A) within 18 months

B) plan ‘K’

C) handsome building

D) william lamb

Answer:

The correct answer is C) handsome building

Explanation:

To paraphrase means to put forward the definition of (something written or spoken) using alternate meanings to give it greater clarity.

In the sentence above, the phrase "handsome building" is murky.

The building (in this context) can only be "<em>handsome</em>" if after it is properly constructed according to sound and generally accepted engineering requirements without losing the original design and altering the projected cost, it still meets the contractors' expectations as the <em>Worlds Tallest Building. </em>

Afterall, he who pays the piper, calls the tune.

Note that the writer communicates challenges with constraints that threatened to force the alteration of the purpose of the building which is to have the Worlds Tallest Building.

There were the constraints of Time and Purpose.

So, a rephrased sentence would look like this:

<em>It was a monumental task: to design the world's tallest building, create as much usable rental space as possible, plan so it could be built within 18 months, and still meet the objective of the Project Owner of becoming the Worlds Tallest Building. In the end, architect William Lamb worked on fifteen designs before his plan "K" was finally chosen.  </em>

Questions Your Response What kind of article is this: narrative (telling a story), expository (giving information or explaining
daser333 [38]

Answer:

<u>The article is an Expository article. </u>

<u>Explanation:</u>

Note how the author, Matthew Hutson began the article, he said<em> </em><em>"Consider a series of experiments conducted by researchers led by...,"  </em>that is to say, he was giving information about the subject matter to his readers.

The main idea or central thesis of this article is to portray how Puritan believes are still present in American society today.

One reason was that "the so-called Protestant work ethic" of respected men like Martin Luther and John Calvin likely influenced the work habits of American culture.

One specific evidence that Hutson offer for why the Puritans still influence American culture today was a study that shows how the view of Martin Luther and John Calvin, in which "they believed in predestination and viewed success as a sign of salvation". I quote Hutson,

"American and Canadian college students were asked to solve word puzzles involving anagrams. But first, some were subtly exposed to (or “primed” with) salvation-related words like “heaven” and “redeem,” while others were exposed to neutral words. The researchers found that the Americans — but not the Canadians — solved more anagrams with salvation on the mind."

To some extent, because the study didn't claim all of American society were still been influenced by the Puritans but makes a balanced conclusion.
