The requirements to become president of the United States are the following, One must be 35 of age or older, You must have been a US citizen for 14 years or more and you must have been born in the US or have at least one US citizen parent. The reasoning for having instilled these rules is because they were looking for mature adults to take on a big role for the country. John Jay felt strongly about being a citizen and how it was only "right" that someone born or of decent can run this country.
