Nativism is the political policy of promoting or protecting the interests of native or indigenous inhabitants over those of immigrants, including the support of immigration-restriction measures.

In scholarly studies, nativism is a standard technical term, although those who hold this political view do not typically accept the label. Oezguer Dindar wrote, "Nativists do not consider themselves to be nativists. For them it is a negative term and they rather consider themselves as 'Patriots'

The short answer is: "to a great extent". The entire plan of the Federalists was to create a strong central government instead of having many autonomous states. Of course this occasionally went against national unity in the sense that some people were opposed to this plan, but in general they favored unity.
