Tell me what y'all think do y'all understand? - Did you know that over 620,000 people died in the Civil War? In class, we are re
ading The River Between Us. It's a fiction novel about the early days of the Civil War and the Pruitt family. It took place in 1961. Howard Leland Hutchings who's 15 years old and his 5 year old twin brothers Raymond and Earl all are going on a trip with their father Dr. William Hutchings from St. Louis across the Mississippi river to Dr. Hutchings' hometown of the Grand Tower. Howard's father was a doctor for the Union army he helps wounded soldiers. Tilly, Cass, Noah were a part of the Pruitt family, then Delphine and Calinda were introduced into the family. From there on Noah was obsessed with Delphine then Noah left one night to leave the war without a goodbye. The Civil War was a harsh thing it Impacted the Pruitt family badly. Mama became depressed when her baby boy Noah went off to war and she doesn't know what to do without him. Noah had lost his arm and he had gotten shot. Mama thought Noah was dead, she was losing her mind so she tossed herself into the river drowning herself to her death. Everybody was worried about Noah. The first reason why I think the war Impacted the Pruitt family badly is because Noah lost his arm and got super sick. If Noah had never been enlisted to be a soldier, then he would not have lost an arm. The war changed Noah's life drastically. Tilly was afraid of losing her twin due to the war. Ma was depressed Ma ordered tilly to go find noah and she told tilly don't come back into u find him and bring him home.
The second reason why I think the war impacted the Pruitt family badly is because mama drowned herself in the river because she thought her son was dead and tilly was faced with death and injury as she considered the possibility of losing her twin to the war.
The American Civil War was a civil war in the United States between the Union and the Confederacy. The central cause of the war was the status of slavery, especially the expansion of slavery into territories acquired as a result of the Louisiana Purchase and the Mexican–American War.
