Israel became an important ally to the U.S. Because of the expansion of Soviet influence in the Middle East.

In the second half of the 20th century, the Soviets began to expand their influence in the Middle East by sending military equipment and aid to Egypt.

The U.S. therefore needed Israel to stem the spread of Communism in the area, and so supported them heavily.
