Answer: Here are a few reasons one could use to argue in favor of not abolishing school uniforms...
Schools who use uniforms are typically private schools and therefore it is an institution that has the right to make its own policies and guidelines. Parents who pay money to send their child to a school where uniforms are mandatory is a choice and a right that should not be taken away. Abolishing the right to choose is unAmerican and hypocritical of those who argue it hinders a student's self expression and identity. In America school choice needs to be upheld and supported. This would Infringe upon an institution's right to have their student body wear uniforms as well an individuals right to have the option of attending a school requiring uniforms or the opposite.
School uniforms serve a purpose just uniforms serve multiple purposes for sports teams, for the military, police officers, nursing staff, etc. Why do colleges and Universities have apparel with the school's colors, mascot, or logo? They provide them because many student's like representing their school and feeling unified with other students and alumni.
Other reasons include the following:
1.) A sense of unity and being part of a team.
2.) Improves equality for students regardless of different financial and economic backgrounds.
3.) Can be used to easily identify who is a student versus a non-student.
4.) Competition is an important and healthy motivator for a student body, but not when it comes to choosing your wardrobe for the school week. It is a wasteful use of time and energy which could be better spent focused on learning and developing ones own gifts and talents.
5.) It may be a financial benefit for students whose parents cannot afford purchasing a wide variety of clothing.
6.) Some people enjoy the style and the feeling of wearing a school uniform and do not wish to see it abolished. If a student does not wish to wear a uniform they have the option to choose a school with a different dress code.
