The patient is recovering from hypovolemic shock. The nurse hangs a bag of normal human serum albumin (Albutein) and educates th
FinnZ [79.3K]

It is a protein that pulls water into my blood vessels.

Explanation:

Hypovolemic shock is a life threatening condition that results in severe dehydration of the body or extreme blood loss. Hypovolemic shock causes blood volume to decrease to an extent where heart is unable to pump it.

Hypovolemic shock is such a critical condition where multiple organ failure may occur. It is often treated with intravenous rehydration therapy.

Serum albumin is a common compound which is given to a shock victim as it has the capability of pulling water into the body hence, restoring the blood volume.

So when patient says that "It is a protein that pulls water into my blood vessels." Shows that he understood what nurse taught her.

A student argues that being separated geographically is the only way for speciation to occur. Why is he wrong?
Mashutka [201]
Causes of speciation
Geographic isolation
In the fruit fly example, some fruit fly larvae were washed up on an island, and speciation started because populations were prevented from interbreeding by geographic isolation. Scientists think that geographic isolation is a common way for the process of speciation to begin: rivers change course, mountains rise, continents drift, organisms migrate, and what was once a continuous population is divided into two or more smaller populations.

Reduction of gene flow
However, speciation might also happen in a population with no specific extrinsic barrier to gene flow. Imagine a situation in which a population extends over a broad geographic range, and mating throughout the population is not random. Individuals in the far west would have zero chance of mating with individuals in the far eastern end of the range. So we have reduced gene flow, but not total isolation. This may or may not be sufficient to cause speciation. Speciation would probably also require different selective pressures at opposite ends of the range, which would alter gene frequencies in groups at different ends of the range so much that they would not be able to mate if they were reunited.

What is the DEPENDENT variable in this experiment? (Hint: What depends on the independent variable?)
Nutka1998 [239]
Could you give more information? For the most part, the dependent variable is what you’re recording. For example, if you wanted to see how plants would grow in different conditions, plant height would be the dependent variable. The height DEPENDS on the condition it was grown in. Hope this helps!

16. Why should the recessive phenotype be used first to determine the q squared value instead of the dominant phenotype to deter
podryga [215]

The recessive phenotype is used first to determine the q squared value because it is only expressed when h0m0zygous.

What is a recessive phenotype?

A recessive phenotype is a phenotype which expresses the recessive trait of a gene.

The recessive phenotype is always h0m0zygous for that triat to be expressed.

In the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium equation, the allele and phenotype frequencies are given as follows:

 • p^2 + 2pq + q^2 = 1

where;

 • p^2 is the h0m0zygous dominant phenotype frequency
 • 2pq is the heterozygous phenotype frequency
 • q^2 is the h0m0zygous recessive phenotype frequency

Therefore, the recessive phenotype is used first to determine the q squared value because it is only expressed when h0m0zygous.
