In spite of the British unjust treatment and control, the US still wanted to maintain its affiliation and kinship with Britain. The reason is that America was a new nation, which could be considered defenseless or vulnerable at first. As a result, having a close relationship with their former ruler would prevent future attacks or foreign tension.
