Answer: 0.5 ionic AlCl_3

Explanation: Depression in freezing point takes place when a non volatile solute is added to the solvent.

Pure water freezes at 0 degree C. If a non volatile solute is added to water then water freezes below 0 degree C.

The equation used to calculate depression in freezing point is:

\Delta T_b=imk_f

where, \Delta T_b is the depression in freezing point,

i is the Van't hoff factor,

m is molality and k_f is the freezing point depression constant.

We have aqueous solutions for all the compounds so k_f value will be same. Molality is also same for all of them.

So, the only deciding factor is the Van't hoff factor.

sodium chloride gives one sodium and one chloride ion and so the value of i = 2

Calcium chloride gives one calcium and two chloride ions and so the value of i = 3

Aluminium chloride breaks to give one aluminium ion and three chloride ions and so the value of i = 4

Last one is a molecular compound that does not give ions and so the value of i = 1

The highest value of i is for aluminium chloride and so it has lowest freezing point.

Which phrase describes a compound that consists of 2 elements
bekas [8.4K]
A substance that consist of two elements is one IN WHICH THE ELEMENTS ARE CHEMICALLY COMBINED IN A FIXED PROPORTION.A compound is a substance that is made up of two or more elements which have undergone chemical reaction together and their individual properties have been lost during the reaction, thus a compound has properties that are different from those of its constituents elements. Compounds are usually combined in specific fixed ratio.

The molecular weight of KMnO4 is 158 g/mol. If you wanted to make 500 mL of a 0.1M stock solution of KMnO4, how much solid KMnO4
labwork [276]

Solid KMnO₄ needed = 7.9 g

Further explanation

Given

MW KMnO₄ = 158 g/mol

500 mL(0.5 L) of a 0.1M stock solution of KMnO₄

Required

solid KMnO₄

Solution

Molarity shows the number of moles of solute in every 1 liter of solute or mmol in each ml of solution

\large{\boxed {\bold {M ~ = ~ \frac {n} {V}}}

Input the value :

n = M x V

n = 0.1 M x 0.5 L

n = 0.05 mol

Mass KMnO₄ :

= mol x MW

= 0.05 x 158 g/mol

= 7.9 g
