A dependent clause is the clause which cannot stand alone in its meaning on the other hand independent clause refers to the phrase which can stand alone, though both have a subject and a verb.  

Sentence which uses a dependent clause to correctly combine two sentences is:

Because James made the basket, the crowd went wild.

'Because James made the basket' is the dependent clause.

Whereas, first and third sentence are independent clauses.
