“Lourdes knows. She understands, as only a mother can, the terror she is about to inflict, the ache Enrique will feel and finally the emptiness”(Nazario 1). When Enrique was only five years old, his mother Lourdes made the decision to leave her children and go north to the United States. There in the United States she hopes to find work and support her struggling family back in Honduras. In Enrique’s Journey by Sonia Nazario; a literacy non-fiction, Enrique at the age of 16 goes on a long journey from Honduras to try and find his mother Lourdes with nothing but her phone number, he is still heartbroken from her departure 11 years ago. In Antoine De Saint-Exupèry’s work of fiction titled the Little Prince; an allegory:, a pilot crashes in the Saharan desert, and meets a little boy who claims to be the prince of his planet on asteroid 325 or known by humans as B-612. While in the desert the little prince tells the pilot, his new friend, of his interactions with other various types of people around his neighboring planets. Enrique and the Pilot both learn about responsibility and what it takes to survive.
Sonia Nazario presents the stories in both an editorial and a biography. These two writing styles are different from each other in many ways but are also similar in others.
In the editorial essay, she speaks of the same issues in the biography. For example, children leaving for America alone to try and find their parents. As well as the hardships they face when trying to get into America. The editorial is more opinionated providing evidence to back how she feels about how we should be treating these children and the determination of whether or not they could live in the US.
The biography was mainly to tell the story of one of these children. It was made to give information towards his story and less persuasive towards a certain point. While the editorial was there to back up her feelings about the laws in the United States about immigrants. The biography shows you what it felt like to be in the situation and how hard it was for the children searching for safety or their parents.
In conclusion, the editorial was made to be more persuasive, using opinion and detailed evidence to back her feelings. While the biography may also push you towards following in her opinion about the laws, it was informative of a child's journey and gave you an understanding of these children felt during that time.
The best events that foreshadow the ending for "A Rose for Emily" are: 1) When Homer Barron goes missing in the town. 2) When the strange odor starts to come out of Ms. Emily's house. 3) When Ms. Emily buys rat poison to deal with a "pest." 4) When the town says, "He has been heard to say he is not the marrying type."
