Explanation:

Emily Dickinson writes this poem for a better understanding to the value of life, and she relates fame with food for a better understanding. The theme of "Fame is a fickle food" is that fame can be dangerous to those who seek it.

The theme of fame by Dickinson explains the hardships and the extremes that an individual would take to be noticed. People would go to any limits and do things even if its absurd to gain popularity, but the poet explains fame is not the result of happy or better living.

She relates fame with death of fortune, and how dangerous it can be for a person to attain fame, it is the life of fame that could ultimately ruin a person's life as popularity does not allow a person to live a normal life but a life that should be satisfying to the society.
