The storm that nearly kills Odysseus while he is on the raft
on his way to the island of the Phaeacians was sent by Poseidon. Odysseus was
kept imprisoned for 7 years on Calypso’s island. When he was released, he built
a raft to go away. While he was getting ready to go away, he was given food,
drinks and clothing for his journey. When Poseidon came to know that Odysseus
was escaping he broke the raft but Odysseus was saved by the veil given to him
by the nymph Ino.
