The Twentieth Century American Author project is an opportunity for you to explore American literature of the twentieth century
through a research project. The initial research is the search for an author, If you have a favorite American author, choose another writer for this project. The idea is that you read the works of a few or even quite a few writers, and in the process find writer that you like. For the sake of brevity, you should read a few pages of a given author until you have worked through a number of authors, and then isolate the one you wish to choose for your project. It is easier and more interesting to write and present about an author that you like, agree with, find interesting, or simply enjoy.
Assignment:
1. Research the author of your choice and create a report with the information you gather
a. Where is the author from?
b. What was his or her socioeconomic status as a child?
c. What challenges did this person face while growing up?
d. What privileges did this person enjoy while growing up?
e. When did he or she begin writing?
f. What was happening in society (politics, history, etc) when this author lived and worked that may have influenced his or her writing.
g. A brief timeline of the author's life including major life events
h. What awards/accolades has the author received?
i. Why is this author still studied today?
2. You must include an annotated bibliography for the sources.
