Based on the map given, the following are true:

 • Each hiker began at 180 feet.
 • The hiker with the easiest path was Hiker C.
 • The total change in elevation was 84 meters.

What does the map show?

Hikers A, B, and C all started at the contour line denoting 180 feet so they all started at a height of 180 feet.

Hiker C had the easiest path up the hill because the spacing of the contour lines shows that their path was not as steep as the paths taken by Hikers A and B.

The change in elevation for Hiker A is:

= Height of mountain - Original height

= 264 - 180

= 84 meters

RUDIKE [14]

The focus is the place inside Earth's crust where an earthquake originates. The point on the Earth's surface directly above the focus is the epicenter. When energy is released at the focus, seismic waves travel outward from that point in all directions.
