What is the equation of the following graph?
boyakko [2]

Answer:

\frac{(x-1)^2}{5^2} -\frac{(y-2)^2}{2^2} =1

Step-by-step explanation:

Here you are require to find the equation of the hyperbola given that the center (h,k), the coordinates of the vertices and those of the co-vertices can be determined from the diagram given

The sharp turning points of the curves give the vertices at (-4,2) and (6,2)

Joining the vertices with a straight line will form the transverse axis with length 2a .

To find the length of the transverse axis 2a will be ; 6--4=10. 2a=10 hence a=10/2 =5

a=5

Find the center of the hyperbola at (h,k) by  finding the intersecting point of the diagonals of the rectangle in the diagram

The center identified will be (h,k) = (1,2)

To find the length of the conjugate axis 2b will be ; the length between points (1,4) and (1,0) which are the coordinates of the co-vertices in the hyperbola. 2b= 4-0=4 , b=4/2 = 2

b=2

The standard equation of the hyperbola with center (h,k) is written as ;

\frac{(x-h)^2}{a^2} -\frac{(y-k)^2}{b^2} =1

where  (h,k) is center of hyperbola, (h±a,k) is coordinate of the vertices and (h,k±b) are coordinates of co-vertices.

Substitute values of a, b, h, and k in equation as

\frac{(x-1)^2}{5^2} -\frac{(y-2)^2}{2^2} =1

What is 6b-27=3(5b-2)
irga5000 [103]

Hi,

Start with 6b-27=3(5b-2)

then add 27 to each side, 6b-27+27=15b-6+27

next simplify, 6b=15b+21

now subtract 15b from both sides, 6b-15b=15b+21-15b

simplify again, -9b=21

divide both sides by -9, -9b/-9 = 21/-9

answer: -7/3

Have a great day!

What is the distance between points F(6, 4) and G(14, 19)?
vredina [299]

Answer:

(-8,-15)

Step-by-step explanation:

(6,4) (14,19)

So, to find the distance you need to subtract from the x axis on both coordinates and the y axis on both coordinates.

(6-14) (4-19)

6-14= -8

4-19= -15

I also graphed it as well, so it should be correct.

(-8, -15)

The graphs of y = f(x) and y = g(x) are shown on the coordinate plane below. If g(x) = k* f(x), what is the value of k?
kirill [66]
Step 1
find the equation of f(x)
points
(2,1)  and (0,-3)
m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)----------> m=(-3-1)/(0-2)---------> m=2
y-y1=m(x-x1)-----> y+3=2*(x-0)------> y=2x-3
f(x)=2x-3

step 2
find the equation of g(x)
points
(0,6)  and (2,-2)
m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)----------> m=(-2-6)/(2-0)---------> m=-4
y-y1=m(x-x1)-----> y-6=-4*(x-0)------> y=-4x+6
g(x)=-4x+6

step 3
find the value of k
<span>If g(x) = k* f(x)
so
</span>-4x+6=k*[2x-3]-------> -4x+6=2kx-3k
<span>-4x=2kx--------> k=-2
6=-3k------------> k=-2

the answer is
k=-2

</span>
