The settlers saw the right to take possession of western lands and use them as they saw fitting as an essential element of American freedom. Settlers paid no attention to Indian land titles and admonished the government to set a low price on public land or give it away and regularly occupied land to which they had no legal title. Numerous settlers are also concerned unregulated population of lands west of Appalachian Mountains would aggravate constant warfare with Indians and viewed frontier settlers as disorganized and lacking reverence for authority.
In my opinion I think U.S president today have less power if they could have than before. The presidents back then would hold office until retirement or until death. Today they can hold office for only two terms for which each is four years long. They still cannot make decisions on their own they need the approval of the two other governing branches. I think the framers of the constitution would be satisfied knowing this is so and that the constitution has been something that has been used to base off democracy appropriately.
In my perspective I think that Sparta was rather xenophobic, while Athens were open to foreigners.
