They also invented tools like bronze scalpels, obstetrical hooks, bone drills and forceps, and also the rather frighteningly named vaginal speculum. The Romans are also attributed with pioneering the earliest form of antiseptic surgery since they used to dip medical tools in hot water to disinfect them before surgery.
