Why does the narrator describe Dee’s request for the two quilts made in a voice ""sweet as a bird""

English
1 answer:
rodikova [14]3 years ago
8 0

In the text, "Everyday Use," we learn that Dee wants to keep the quilts that have been passed down in her family for generations. However, she wants to keep them not because they personally mean something to her, but because she thinks they are interesting cultural items.

One of the characteristics of Dee is that she is quite harsh, and lacks softness or sweetness. However, when she asks for the quilts, she does so in an extremely sweet voice. This fact is included in order to show the reader how false Dee's intentions are, and to reinforce the idea that Dee is asking for the quilts for the wrong reasons.

What is migration period art? What is insular art?
Sophie [7]

Migration Period art denotes the artwork of the Germanic peoples during the Migration period (ca. 300-900). It includes the Migration art of the Germanic tribes on the continent, as well the start of the Insular art or Hiberno-Saxon art of the Anglo-Saxon and Celtic fusion in the British Isles.

Insular art, also known as Hiberno-Saxon art, is the style of art produced in the post-Roman history of Ireland and Britain. The term derives from insula, the Latin term for "island"; in this period Britain and Ireland shared a largely common style different from that of the rest of Europe.

kolezko [41]
"Most children brought up in Brooklyn before the First World War remember Thanksgiving Day there with a peculiar tenderness. It was the day children went around “ragamuffin” or “slamming gates,” wearing costumes topped off by a penny mask." This evokes a sense of time and place because of the diction it uses. It tells us that it was before WW1 on Thanksgiving.
