"The branches creaked gently in the breeze. Far off in the distance, Peter heard a rhythmic sound. It grew louder as the source of the sound came closer. He knew it a once! It will be his lost horse!"

In this sentence we see that everything is changing very smoothly using the correct tense, except "It <u><em>will be </em></u> his lost horse!"

In this statement, it said came, heard, creaked and everything except will be. Will be is a future tense Shift.
