I think that it would be a great idea to try as hard as she can during the exam and after the test go see a supervisor or teacher to explain what happened. Maybe she can then retake her exam or her situation can at least be taken into account while grading.
The answer is simple, really. It's because it represents their marriage. And it was carved into an olive tree, if I'm not mistaken. So if you wanted to move something carved into a tree, you would have to move the tree so... hope this helps in any way shape or form. :)
