A central idea of President Reagan's speech is that West Berlin is facing economic collapse as it continues to be trapped and limited by the Berlin Wall; this barrier must therefore  be destroyed.

In his speech at the Brandenburg Gate, President Ronald Reagan who was the 40th American president gave a speech where he recommended that the Berlin Wall which has been a barrier to the people of West and East Berlin be destroyed.
