As Melba travels through Central, she relies on several weapons to get the job done. The weapons she continuously uses are her faith in God, her words, and her courage. Beginning with her second day at Central, Melba is experiencing a great deal of hatred. "To keep my focus, I began saying the Lord's Prayer" (Beals 147). One girl spit on her, others walked on her heels, and a majority called her awful names.
