2. Decomposers play a critical role in the flow of energy through an ecosystem. They break apart dead organisms into simpler inorganic materials, making nutrients available to primary producers. Mold plays a big part in material biodegradation, enabling decay and rot necessary in all ecosystems.

3. The form of energy entering the food chain is sunlight, which is being taken by plants to produce glucose as their food energy. When it leaves the food chain, the energy is then heat.
