What the author tells you about the character-: Mrs Beatrice Achike is a quiet and submissive woman who takes good care of her children and family.

What the character says and does: Mama's character is known to dare not go against her husband's brutality.

What the character thinks: Mama believes that she should be submissive and remain indulgent to her husband.

What others say about the character: Her children believes that Mama should stand up to her husband.

What the character says and does: He is known to dominate his family and imposes harsh religion in his home.

What others say about the character: His daughter, Kambili, resents him and goes against him at will.

What the author tells you about the character: Kambili is a shy and timid young girl because of the abuse she received from her father over the years.

What the character says and does: She doesn't like to live with her parents because of the abuse from her dad and so she "escaped" to Aunty Ifeoma's house and living with her built her courage.

What the character thinks: Kambili believes that opening up and building her courage helped her a lot with standing up to her father.

What others say about the character: Kambili's Aunty believe that Kambili deserves a more liberal life.

What the author tells you about the character: Chukwuka Achike, popularly called Jaja is kambili's brother violates a lot against his father.

What the author tells you about the character: Amaka is an analytical young lady who is loyal to her catholic upbringing.

What the character says and does: Amaka greatly condemns her cousins' wealth.

What the character thinks:Amaka believes that any child proud of her roots should stay true and be loyal to her roots.

What others say about the character: Kambili believes that Amaka is too forward but in the end, the came around and finally formed a sisterly bond.
