Each of these events and actions dealt with the extension of slavery into the western territories. The Missouri Compromise (1820) banned slavery 36 degrees latitude. The Compromise of 1850 allowed for popular sovereignty (voters decide) in the Mexican Cession territory.

The answer is C.  The Japanese were being slaughtered and yet the commanders still would not surrender because they thought that it would disappoint their families and ruin their honor. But in the end it just made the battle even more of an allied win. Hope this helps :)
