A simile is also a comparison but it is made using the words "like" or "as." In the given sentence we can see an example of a metaphor in the phrase "Sam was a brick wall" (it compares Sam to a brick wall), and also of a simile in the phrase "the offense shattered like glass" (it compares the offense to glass using the word "like").
