During that period, intellectual ideas began to spring up in which the earth seen orbiting the sun. The new view of the universe and the knowledge of science led to the beginning of the scientific revolution. Copernicus held a keen interest and came in contact with the Humanist ideas of Italy. Copernicus influenced by new Platonic ideas, and he argued that the sun was the center of the universe. His work in 1543 created a stir in the courts and people in Europe.

Due to strong rulers in different countries in Europe, Italy had to develop strong defenses and had to also be strong country itself or perish and be anhiliated by other strong rulers. They partially did this by becoming a state of trade that was valuable to anyone who traded with them.
