Triplets Peter, Reeta and Nikita have two ways for getting home from school each day: cycle on a tandem bike or walk. The bike c

an carry either one or two riders at a time. Regardless of the number of people pedalling, cycling speed is 5 times walking speed. The triplets always leave school at the same time and always use the same path between school and home, whether walking or cycling. The school is 5km from home and their walking speed is 4 kilometres per hour.
d) On Thursday, it is Reeta's turn to walk. Peter drops Nikita off at a certain point leaving her to walk home, Meanwhile he returns to pick up Reeta and they cycle home together. If all three arrive home at the same time, how far from school are the drop-off ad pick up points.

Answer:

Pick up point  is 1.43 km from the school and drop point is 3.57 km from the school  ( to the nearest hundredth).

Step-by-step explanation:

School <----------- 5 km ---------------> Home

_______ P _______ D _______

      x  km          y km        5-x-y km

                     _______

                           y

                     _________________

                                  5-x km

D is the point where Peter drops off N and P is the pick point x km from the school  where  Peter picks up R. He travels back y km to pick up R.

We work in times:

Time = distance / speed

The time that  R walks from the school to point P is the same  as Peter travels the distance  (x + 2y) km, so we have

x/5 =  (x + 2y)/20

20x = 5x + 10y

15x - 10y = 0     A

The time that N walks home equals the time that Peter travels y + 5 - x km.

So (y + 5 - x)/20 = (5 - x - y)/5

5y + 25 - 5x = 100 - 20x - 20y

15x  + 25y = 75

3x + 5y = 15   B

Solving equation A and B

15x - 10y = 0

3x + 5y = 15

Multiply the second equation by 2:

6x + 10y = 30

Adding this to the first equation

21x = 30

x = 30/21 = 1.4285

So  3(1.4285) + 5y = 15

y = 2.1428

Pick up x  = 1.43 km

and the drop is 1.43 + 2.14 = 3,57 km from the school

zaharov [31]

Answer:

18: x=98 y=38

19: x=20 y=50

Step-by-step explanation:

To figure out figure 18 you would first figure out x and a triangle equals 180 so 180- (36+46) which is 180-82= 98 and then there are vertical angles between the right and left side so x is equal to one of the angles on the right so 98+44= 142 and 180-142= 38

Then to figure out figure 19 you would first find y by adding 39 and 91 to get 130 and 180-130=50 and then 180-91 (for the angle in the bottom right for the left triangle) is 89 so 89+71=160 and 180-160 is 20.

What is 3/7 - 2/7 this is unlike factors
stiks02 [169]

Answer:

\frac{1}{7}

Step-by-step explanation:

Since they have the same denominator (the number on the bottom), you can just subtract the numerators (the numbers on the top). So 3-2 is 1. You always leave the denominator as it is, don't subtract it.

A probability experiment will consist of selecting one of two stacks of cards, and then choosing a card at random from the stack
postnew [5]

Answer:

The probability that the red card came from the first stack is:

40%

Step-by-step explanation:

a) Data and Calculations:

Stack         Red      Blue   Total

First            6           5         11

Second      9            0         9

Total         15            5       20

The probability of selecting from the first stack = 50% since equal opportunity is given to the two sacks.

The probability of red card from the first stack = 6/15 = 0.4 = 40%.

b) The probability that the red card came from the first stack is given by the number of red cards in the first stack divided by the number or red cards in the two stacks.  This is equal to 6/15 = 0.4 or 40%.

Alex and Ben were given a total of £240 They shared the money in the ratio 5:7
AfilCa [17]

Answer:

Ben received: £140

Step-by-step explanation:

Total amount = £240

Given ratio: 5:7

It means £240 is divided into 12 parts

So 1 part will be equal to:   £240/12

1 part = £20

Now given ratio is:

5:7

Multiplying each share with £20

5*(£20) : 7* (£20)

£100: £140

So according to ratio amounts:

Alex received:  £100

Ben received: £140

I hope it will help you!
