Answer:

The 1838 Treaty of Balta Liman, or the Anglo-Ottoman Treaty, is a formal trade agreement signed between the Sublime Porte of the Ottoman Empire and Great Britain. The trade policies imposed upon the Ottoman Empire, after the Treaty of Balta Liman, were some of the most liberal, open market, settlements that had ever been enacted during the time. The terms of the treaty stated that, the Ottoman Empire will abolish all monopolies, allow British merchants and their collaborators to have full access to all Ottoman markets and will be taxed equally to local merchants. These agreements did not constitute an equal free trade arrangement, as the United Kingdom still employed protectionist policies on their agricultural markets.

irga5000 [103]
The Truman Doctrine was a law that helped to give financial assistance to countries struggling after World War II. Thanks to this law, the US would give Greece and Turkey $400 million in aid. The goal would be that these countries would remain free from communism and the reign of the Soviet Union. This doctrine is just the beginning of trying to stop the spread of communism globally.

The Truman Doctrine was just the start of US involvement in global affairs in order to stop the spread of communism. The US passes other laws (like the Marshall Plan) to help European countries. Along with this, the US also gets involved in foreign wars such as the Korean and Vietnam Wars. All of these events were a result of the United States's dedication to stop the spread of communism as laid out in the Truman Doctrine.

Read this excerpt about Qin Shi Huang, the founder of the Qin dynasty. Then answer the question that follows.
lozanna [386]

Taking only the information of the fragment into consideration, the only thing that we can infer is that Qin Shi Huang believed that economic progress is the true mark of a successful empire. After all, the excerpt is stating that he added greatly to China’s progress and built roads to improve China’s trade, which mean he was concerned with the wealth of his empire.

On the other hand, the excerpt is not telling us the causes of his short rule; therefore, we can discard answers A and C. In addition, even though the excerpt is telling us he began the construction of the great wall, it does not state his reason for doing so; therefore, we can rule out Answer B. Last, we can rule out D because the excerpt is telling us he united China, but is not telling us the means he used.

Taking all of this into consideration, we can conclude that the answer is E.

Plz, help. Which of these groups introduced the mathematical concept of zero to the Americas?
lina2011 [118]

Answer:

The correct answer is D: the Maya

Explanation:

Although the first zero was found in Mesopotamia, the Mayans invented it separately from the Mesopotamian civilization in approximately 4 A.D.

They wrote zero as a shell-shaped number and used it in their Long Count Calendar as a place-holder.

For the Mayans, zero was the base for correct counting, so the first day of the month was zero, the second day was one, etc.
