Summarize this:
saw5 [17]
An emperor wants his empire to be in good hands, so he decided to to test the candidates by giving them a seed to grow, which they will have to return in a year. A man named Ling noticed that his seed was not growing and everyone's else was. He ended up going empty handed after a year. To his surprise he was chosen to be the emperor because all of the seeds were previously boiled so that they would not grow. Ling was the only one that was honest - and that is the theme of this story; to be honest.

1. Which word best defines the word diminish? One would think his anxiety would diminish, not increase, once his name was called
mestny [16]
Q1. The answer is c. lessen. To diminish something means to make something smaller. To lessen something is to make it less. In either case, it means to decrease something. Thus, in this sentence "One would think his anxiety would diminish, not increase, once his name was called." 'lessen' can substitute 'diminish'. Q2. The answer is a. character vs. self. In the paragraph, character vs. self-conflict is obvious. Sentences "...he was filled with fear. He did not know what his selection meant. He did not know what he was to become. Or what would become of him." show his unawareness of what will become of him which worries him. This implies self-conflict. Q3. The answer is a. the ability to see and experience things others cannot. In The Giver, the capacity to see beyond is the ability to use not those senses present in the community, but those senses present in the memories. For instance, Jonas has ability to see colours.

A Good Deed
nikitadnepr [17]

Answer:

One time I was at a store and a little kid was trying to buy a toy with the money they had saved. The toy was about 20 dollars before taxes, and they kid only had the 20 dollars so they weren't going to be able to buy it. I offered to pay the difference, it was only like a dollar anyway. But the kid was happy they got the toy they wanted and they thanked me. It wasn't anything big, but it felt good to see the kid happy.
