Rikki Tikki Tavi was written by Rudyard Kipling and was included in an anthology of short stories (<u><em>The Jungle Book</em></u>) published in 1894.
It is surprising to me that a Mongoose can take on a Cobra and win when the Cobra is much bigger and very much deadlier and very quick when it strikes. I guess a mongoose can read the snakes intentions.
