These victories led to the Japanese trying to seize all the poorly protected French and Dutch lands in Asia and eventually take British colonies and China. The Japanese planed to seal of the Burma Road which was the Allied supply rout for China so that china couldn't receive aid when the Japanese attacked. They managed to occupy bases in the north of French Indochina and in July 1941 they took the bases in the South. The United States responded to this with an embargo (restriction) on all trade to Japan.</span>
