Neither side was able to make progress in the war and this was the effect of the stalemate of 1916 of the war in the western front. During World War I, the western front was considered as the main theater of war. After the outbreak of the war, the Germans opened up a front in the western part and started progressing until the progress was halted by the Battle of Marne.

The principal message of the cartoon is that the standard oil company
Agata [3.3K]

If you are referring to the cartoon that shows the Standard Oil Company as an octopus, then the message is that Standard Oil Company is a dangerous monopoly that controls the US government.

If you look in the picture, you can see that the octopus (representing Standard Oil Company) has its tentacles wrapped around different federal buildings including the State capitol, Congress, and is soon to be taking control of the White House. This symbolism is trying to show that this company has controll over the federal government and that it cannot be stopped. This author is definitely painting the Standard Oil Company in a negative light.

How did geography help to determine the economies and social customs of the English colonies
Anarel [89]
A lot of it depended on the area where they lived in. If you lived in the north, you mostly wanted to sell lumber and probably fish because there was so much of it there. If you lived in the south, you had a much better climate and that means they could plant and use plantations. It all depended on the climate they had and if the land was good or not. They also mostly did fish everywhere because they were super close to water.
