1. The heron says that it will take care of Freddy the frog and deliver it safely back to its home, but by licking its beak and outwardly expressing its intent to eat Freddy. Freddy observes this action and thinks better of trusting the heron, knowing that it intends to do him harm rather than good as it says.

2. Sue's time machine is broken, and she has to fix it on her own. She knows that since she has no other choice than to fix the time machine in order to get back to her time, she can fix it.

3. Although Peter would never usually choose to play chess, he has nothing else to do and decides to give it a try with this grandpa.
