The World War II, however, had a profound effect on American birth rates, with dramatic increases which was unexpected reversal of the prewar decline.

<h3>What happened to the birth rate after world War II?</h3>

The combination of factors that produced this child birth increase was that the soldiers returning home from the war, wanting to start a new journey and longing for stability in the lives of their families and loved ones.

The benefits of GI Bill promised decent pay, access to decent work, and affordable housing and raising a family was possible.

After more than fifteen years of economic instability, things finally got better in the United States, and everyone was ready to take full advantage of it.

Thus, these positive changes after World War II led to increasing trend in birth rates from 1946 to 1964.
