Equation to represent the given situation :

7(19.70 + 1.97 + m X 0.05) = 180.39,

<h3>What is Linear Equation?</h3>

A linear equation is an algebraic equation of the form y=mx+b. involving only a constant and a first-order (linear) term, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept.

Given that:

Total cost for 7 month =$180.39

Let m be the average number of minutes  that exceeds 700 minutes each month.

Equation :

7(19.70 + 1.97 + m X 0.05) = 180.39,

or,  7(19.70 + 1.97 + m X 0.05) = 180.39,

or, 21.67 + 0.05m = 180.39/ 7,

or, 0.05m = 25.77 – 21.67,

0.05m = 4.1

m= 82

Hence,  equation to represent the given situation : 7(19.70 + 1.97 + m X 0.05) = 180.39.

the ratio of the heights of two similar triangles is 6:5 if the perimeter of the larger triangle is 49.2 feet. find the perimite
Mademuasel [1]

Answer:

41 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

We apply the theorem below:

If two similar triangles have a scale factor of a : b, then the ratio of their perimeters is a : b.

Let x be the perimeter of the smaller triangle

If the ratio of their heights is 6:5 and the perimeter of the larger triangle is 49.2 feet,

6:5=49.2:x

6/5=49.2/x

Cross multiplying

6x=49.2 X 5

6x=246

x=246/6=41

The perimeter of the smaller triangle is 41 feet

Which is an equation of the parabola that intersects the x-axis at points (-1, 0) and (3, 0)? Show your work or explain how you
hichkok12 [17]

Answer:

\displaystyle \large{y=x^2-2x-3}

Step-by-step explanation:

The given points are (-1,0) and (3,0) to find an equation of parabola. Notice that they say or the given points are x-intercepts, which means they make it easier for us to find an equation of parabola using these x-intercepts.

Quick Note:

  • x-intercepts are simply the roots or solutions of quadratic equation, so if our root is x = -2 then we can write as (-2,0) and write back to x+2=0.

So what we are going to do is to write the roots’ equation back as \displaystyle \large{x+\alpha =0}

Our points or roots are given, therefore:

If x = -1 then x+1=0

If x = 3 then x-3=0

Then multiply x+1 with x-3 because if (x-1)(x+3)=0 then x-1=0 or x+3=0:

\displaystyle \large{(x+1)(x-3)=0}

Convert 0 to y since we want to find a function:

\displaystyle \large{(x+1)(x-3)=y}\\\displaystyle \large{y=(x+1)(x-3)}

Expand the expressions in and simplify to standard form:

\displaystyle \large{y=x^2-3x+x-3}\\\displaystyle \large{y=x^2-2x-3}

Therefore, the equation is \displaystyle \large{y=x^2-2x-3}

Summary

If we are given the points \displaystyle \large{(\alpha ,0)} and \displaystyle \large{(\beta ,0)} with wideness of the graph or a-value = 1 then the parabola equation is:

\displaystyle \large{y=(x-\alpha )(x-\beta )}\\\displaystyle \large{y=x^2-\beta x-\alpha x+\alpha \beta }\\\displaystyle \large{y=x^2-(\beta +\alpha )x+\alpha \beta }

The solutions for -5 +2x^{2} = -6x is option 3. x= \frac{-6 \pm \sqrt{36-4 (2)(-5)}}{4} .

Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1:

First, we must bring the equation to the form of ax^{2} +bx +c =0.

So -5 +2x^{2} = -6x becomes 2x^{2} +6x-5=0.

The value of a is the coefficient of the x^{2} term, the value of b is the coefficient of x term and c is the coefficient of the constant term.

Comparing the above equation to ax^{2} +bx +c =0, we get a = 2, b = 6, and c=-5.

We have the formula x=\frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^{2}-4 a c}}{2 a}.

Step 2:

By substituting the known values, we get

x=\frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^{2}-4 a c}}{2 a} =\frac{-6 \pm \sqrt{6^{2}-4 (2)(-5)}}{2 (2)}.

\frac{-6 \pm \sqrt{6^{2}-4 (2)(-5)}}{2 (2)} = \frac{-6 \pm \sqrt{36-4 (2)(-5)}}{4} .

This is the third option.
