Rachel works at a bookstore. On Tuesday, she sold twice as many books as she did on Monday. On Wednesday, she sold 6 fewer books

than she did on Tuesday. During the three days Rachel sold 19 books. Create an equation that can be used to find m, the number of books Rachel sold on Monday.

Answer:

The answer is 5 books.

m - the number of books sold on Monday

t - the number of books sold on Tuesday

w - the number of books sold on Wednesday

On Tuesday, she sold twice as many books as she did on Monday: t = 2m

On Wednesday, she sold 6 fewer books than she did on Tuesday: w = t - 6

During the three days Rachel sold 19 books: m + t + w = 19

t = 2m

w = t - 6 = 2m - 6

m + t + w = 19

______

Substitute t and w in the third equation:

m + 2m + 2m - 6 = 19

5m - 6 = 19

5m = 19 + 6

5m = 25

m = 25 : 5

m = 5

I need help with these two trigonometry problems.
Ymorist [56]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

For 5 we need to use sine law.

The thing about sine law is that we need to look at the triangle sides that are in front of the angles.

In this case: <B = 30°

the triangle side that is in front of this angle is AC which is 4 cm.

Then we got <C = 61°, and the triangle side in front of it is AB, which is what we need to find.

According to sine law:

\frac{sin B}{AC} = \frac{sin C}{AB}

\frac{sin 30}{4} = \frac{sin 61}{AB}

Notice that you need to be consistent. If you start writing that the angle is in the numerator, it needs to be in the numerator on the other side of the equation.

Solving it would give us:

(AB )(sin 30) = (sin 61)(4)

AB = 6.9969 cm

to the nearest tenth it's 7.0 cm

Question 6:

Wow it's pretty crowded, but they probably want us to use sine law as well. Let's write what we know:

<C  = 12°

<B = 107°

AB = 21 yd

AC = ?

Apply it to the formula: sin(angle) / the triangle side in front of it.

\frac{sin 12}{21} = \frac{sin 107}{AC}\\

(sin 107)(21) = (sin 12)(AC)

AC = 96.59

to the nearest tenth AC = 96.6 yd

lawyer [7]

This question can be solved using an Algebraic equation.

The system of equations is given as:

x + y ≤ 10

8x + 16y ≥ 96

Let's represent

x = number of hours he walks the dogs

y = number of hours he works as a maths tutor

John must work for no more than 8 hours walking the dog and 2 hours as a Maths tutor to earn at least $96.

Our system of equations is given as:

He wants to work no more than 10 hours.

No more is represented by the inequality "≤ " = Less than or equal to

x + y ≤ 10 ...........Equation 1

He also wants to earn at least 96.

At least is represented by the inequality" ≥" = Greater than or equal to

$8 × x + $16 × y  ≥ 96

8x + 16y ≥ 96........Equation 2

Solving for the number of hours

x + y = 10

x = 10 - y

Substitute 10 - y for x in Equation 2

8(10 - y) + 16y = 96

80 - 8y + 16y = 96

Collect like terms

8y = 96 - 80

8y = 16

Divide both sides by 8

8y/8 = 16/8

y = 2 hours

Solving for x

x = 10 - y

x = 10 - 2

x = 8 hours

Therefore, John must work for no more than 8 hours walking the dog and 2 hours as a Maths tutor to earn at least $96.
