Answer:

Katy Evans was mystified when she couldn’t find her pet tortoise, but luckily, she didn’t have to wait too long. After being missing from her home for four days, Tilly was found wandering around the local supermarket.

Mia Allan, who works at the store, said, “At first, I thought it was one of the toys from the toy aisle, so I had a big shock when I went to pick it up.”

Tilly went missing from the Dryden area – 3 miles away from a supermarket. Katy’s mother saw a picture of Tilly in the supermarket window and immediately went to claim her. “I was so relieved – Katy has been heartbroken. I don’t understand how she could have got that far without anyone noticing her.”

Dave Hope, a zoologist from Ranmar Zoo, said, “It would have been quite an experience for Tilly.”

diamong [38]

Answer:

because it comes from an actual immigrant whose experience agrees with Freedman's statement that one out of every five immigrants was detained.

Explanation:

According to Edward Corsi's quotation from the book "Immigrant Kids", Angelo Pellegrini recounts his experience of his family being detained at Ellis Island as his sister who was ill was rejected and his mother was told that she can't be allowed to go in.

This quotation adds credibility to the text because it comes from an immigrant whose experience agrees with Freedman's statement that one out of five immigrants was detained.

What basic request does the speaker make of the person he addresses
docker41 [41]

A speaker addresses a person for various reasons. For example, s/he may see that the listener is distracted and s/he may want the addressee to focus more on what s/he has to say. Moreover, it can happen in the middle of a speech, because what will follow is really important and s/he feels the need to underline it by asking for more attention from the listeners.  Furthermore, the speaker may address a person because s/he may want to talk specifically to this person about something or in order to give him/her the stand.

So, from all the above, it could be concluded that the basic request of the speaker when s/he addresses a person is to grab the listener's attention.
