Button button How do Norma’s personal desires affect the outcome of the story?
Softa [21]

Answer:

Norma's personal desires resulted to her pushing the button, which unknowingly, led to her husband's death.

Explanation:

"Button, Button" is a shorty story written by Richard Matheson. It focuses on the story of a couple, Norma and Arthur, who were having financial troubles. Then, came a day when a mysterious box showed up. A stranger visited the house when Arthur was at work. He gave Norma the key to the box and told her that she could press the box to receive $50,000. However, if she does this, someone she didn't know will die.

Norma didn't listen to her husband when her husband threw the box in the trash. She was focused on <u>obtaining the</u><u> $50,000</u>, without thinking about who will die if she presses the button. Although her husband already told her that an innocent person might die once she does it, she still didn't care.

So, when Norma pressed the button, <em><u>her husband died in a train incident</u></em>. Norma wondered why her husband died and asked the stranger about it. The stranger only answered, <em>"Do you really think you knew your husband?</em>"

Rumors, superstitions, or propaganda can replace reason with irrational hysteria
Elza [17]

Answer:

<h3>Agree.</h3>

Explanation:

Yes, rumors, superstitions, or propaganda can replace reason with irrational hysteria  when groups of people get together because <u>reason gets undermined when a particular rumor, superstition or propaganda is believed by the majority.</u>

This can be seen in many past as well present instances where baseless claims or propaganda have swept people in great confusion and misunderstanding.

When groups of people start to believe in a particular rumor, superstition or propaganda, <u>the society as a whole eventually start to accept them as facts</u>. Also commonly known as mass hysteria, the general masses fail to reason with facts and create a hostile environment around them.

One of the many examples would be the Soviet propaganda in U.S during the Cold War ear which have caused mass hysteria among the citizens of the country.
