In "1984" by George Orwell, during the discussion between Julia and Winston, we find out that the Party has control over society because they were able to keep people ignorant. Winston does not know what year it is, and the information changes so often that it is almost impossible to discover the truth. Also, Julia explains that the Party's puritanism allows the people to channel their anger and frustration towards anyone that opposes the Party.

Answer:
they use the word advocate meaning someone who feels strong and encourages others to feel the same
Explanation:
The narrator more than likely used italics when writing the word "must" to provide emphasis. With the italics, the sentence can be read as if the character just had an experience that they cannot explain or describe in a way that makes sense in reality, and therefore convinces themselves that whatever just happened must have been a dream (On a side note, this is a common way for someone to react to a traumatic experience, or things that seem impossible. It is simply the brain coping with information that seems incomprehensible).
